Museum Plantin Moretus

Dirk Imhof, Kristof Selleslach, Iris Kockelbergh, Kris Geysen

Christophe Plantin, the most famous Belgian printer of all times, was born in France around 1520. At the age of thirty he moved to Antwerp with his wife and child and founded his company, the Officina Plantiniana. Before long it was a multinational with branches in Frankfurt, Leiden and Paris. On behalf of leading writers and scientists of the time Plantin published pioneering works which helped shape Western thinking. Housed in a magnificent and well preserved building, the printing business headed up by Plantin and his successors is now a museum and UNESCO World Heritage site. The book sheds light on the story of this unique enterprise in word and image.
